DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF BURGLAR ALARM CIRCUIT WITH DISPLAY UNIT
ABSTRACT
Burglar alarm circuit is made up of five major sections. The power supply section; it connects to the source of power, the trigger section which produces trigger current, touch section that controls the supply of power in the circuit, alarm section that sounds when current is supplied to the circuit and the display section constructed with light emitting diodes (LEDs) five (5) digits or alphabets arranged to give inscription “THIEF” soldered on a veroboard. The display section is connected to the alarm section such that its operation depends on the alarm section.

INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Alarm as the name implies are used to alert in the event of any situation that is a threat. There are several kinds of alarm (Walker, 1985). Some of them include fire alarm, burglar alarm, indicator alarm, heat and smoke detector e. t. c.
Burglar alarm systems are increasingly being used in private homes, offices, stores and other businesses. They have become standard equipments especially in stores and warehouses. The system is also suitable for use in jewelry stores, artifacts in museum and for safe guarding drawings, paintings and sculpture in art galleries and also to detect unauthorized access.
The approach used in this work is the modular approach where the overall design was first broken into functional block diagrams, where each block represents a section of the circuit that carries out a specific function. The functional block diagram below shows the interconnection between these blocks.
1.2 PURPOSE OF STUDY
The purpose of this project is to design and construct a burglar alarm circuit for use by laboratories, stores homes and offices to prevent unauthorized entering and theft.1.3 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The design and construction of this project consist of different components put together to make up the circuit. When the presence of a thief or unauthorized entering is sensed, the switch is pressed ON and the alarm rings until the switch is pressed OFF again
